What's New

January, 2005

Two more sets of sub-national flags have been added, meaning that Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Netherlands, Netherland Antilles, United Kingdom and United States sub-nationals are now back in the new site. Further countries will be added soon.

October, 2004

The entire site has been re-designed and re-engineered. It now runs from a database using PHP. The HTML has been modernized, and now uses CSS stylesheets. The flag images are now larger and where relevant the FIAV flag code is given beside each flag.

There is now a full search facility that allows you to find a flag by colour or design.

Initially some of the sub-national regions that were covered in the old version, and the flags from history, are not in the new version, but rest assured that these will be added back in. In the meantime there are many more head-of-state flags, more naval ensigns, etc. There are also a whole lot more British flags (this being my speciality), including all the current yacht ensigns.

The new site is still a work in progress, with new features being added as time allows.

The main index has been redone, with clearer links to the different parts of the site. The new "Complete Index" now includes sub-national regions. There is a new section "About Flags" which includes the list of other websites that it replaces in the navigation bar. The section is still under construction but I hope it will answer many of your queries about flags.

March, 2000

Advertising banners have been added to all the pages. As the popularity of this site has grown over the last few years the costs of hosting it have increased. In order to cover these costs and provide the opportunity to expand the site I have decided to take advertising. I am using a very reputable ad agency that does not take adverts for subjects unsuitable for children, but if you do come across an advert that you feel is inappropriate please email me about it (the more details about the ad you send me the better able I will be to track it).

A major update to the database with numerous countries updated. Links to additional pages now have graphical buttons to make them more obvious. The main memberships of each country are now given and many organizations now include membership lists.

The entire database has been recreated with the main country pages now concentrating on national and state flags and ensigns. Flags of subnationals are now given on additional pages. This should reduce page load times for users who are mainly interested in national flags, while allowing the total flag coverage to be increased (see United Kingdom for an example).
